Winter kayak tours
Enjoy the arctic winter by sea kayak
The late fall and winter months are some of the best seasons to kayak around Tromsø. The water is crystal clear, the air is crisp and clean and the early afternoon sunsets are beyond beautiful. It begins with the bright colors of fall, with white tipped peaks, untill the landscape is covered in white.
In the darkest period from the middle of november to end of january we are all about polar nights with the stars twinkling 24 hours a day.
Together we suit up in drysuits and stay warm kayaking our way in the sounds, islands and archipelagos surrounding Sommarøy. Often a seal or two will curiously show up by our side and follow us for a while. If luck is on our side we might find ourselves in a flock of orcas that sometimes pass through the sounds.
Minimum booking of 4 persons, ages 14 years and up.
1. Oktober – 1. May, Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Price 990NKR per person.
Slightly challenging. You must enjoy being out in the arctic winter to enjoy the tour.
Starting point: Sommarøy Adventure activity centre (see map below) at 1000AM. Duration aprox 2 1/2 hours.
After kayaking the hotspots, we head back to the activity centre and enjoy a snack and hot drinks. If the weather is suitable we will make a break outside by the fire instead while on tour.
This is a guided tour and you do not need previous experience to join us. A safety briefing and introduction to winter sea kayaking will be given before setting out. On our winter tours we paddle sturdy double kayaks, but you may paddle singles on request if you can document sufficient kayaking skills. The guide will pick a location according to the weather and sea conditions to make sure you have a safe trip.
We work with weather up here in the arctic and sometimes we have to shorten the route or cancel due to safety. We always try to rebook you on these occasions. A cancellation is fully refunded.
